About the Family Law Administration
The Family Law Administration administers, on behalf of the Government of the Faroe Islands, various cases related to Family- and Personal Law.
Prior to 29 July 2018, the High Commission of Denmark in the Faroe Islands and the Chief of Police were, on behalf of the Danish State, responsible for handling cases now placed under the Family Law Administration. The Family Law Administration was established 29 July 2018 when the Faroe Islands took over the administration of Family-, Personal- and Inheritance Law.
The Family Law Administration is an authority under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, and its office is located at Dr. Jakobsens gøta 21 in Tórshavn.
The Family Law Administration is staffed by legal advisers, clerks, a social worker and a psychologist. In addition, a lawyer is appointed as guardian of the Family Law Administration. A manager heads the Family Law Administration.
The Family Law Administration must, in a rational and timely manner, be able to provide citizens with competent services in accordance with the legal framework that guides the Family Law Administration work.
The aim is always to make correct and transparent decisions, ensure expedient case consideration and provide children and adults with practical help and guidance. We wish to be an open administration with which the citizen finds it easy and straightforward to communicate.
